Our Favorite Romantic Getaway Spot

Sometimes you just need a little time away. I would like to share our favorite spot Silverton, Oregon. It is just over an hour drive away from the Portland area but it seems like a whole other world. Near the Oregon Gardens and the Silver Falls, Silverton is the center of great activities. We love to stay at the Silverton Inn. Each room is unique and always has the nicest of layouts for a reasonable price. Breakfast is served in buffet style and you can eat it in front of a roaring fire if you choose.

Just across the street is the best Thai food I think I have ever eaten. Their pad thai is refreshingly made of fresh ingredients (no gross sauce based in ketchup). The pad woo sen is to die for. Every dish is full of flavor and we love to visit each night we stay. Thai Dish is off the beaten path but so worth the trip to Silverton just to eat at this treasure of a restaurant.
Full of antique stores and cute boutiques it is fun to walk in downtown Silverton. There are also a couple of unique communities in the area. Mt. Angel, just north of Silverton, is a German community. All of their signs are in a "German" style font creating both an adorable and cheesy environment to explore. They also have an impressive church tower to check out as well.
This last visit also included a trip up to Washington for us. We had a great time seeing the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. Even in the winter it produced a good amount of wildlife to view.

 A nutria.
A GBH with some geese and some coots (which look like a hilarious combination between a chicken and a duck).

 A falcon.

An albino goose. You can see it toward the middle.

We had such a good weekend. Sometimes a marriage just needs a little boost to be going at its best. It felt like we had a week off. Try it out!
